That’s why we are incredibly excited to announce a groundbreaking new partnership with Protern.io, a world-class performance analytics platform that will transform the way our athletes and coaches approach ski racing.
This isn't just a new app—it's a fundamental investment in the future of our team. By combining Protern's high-precision GPS data with on-mountain video, we are giving our coaches a powerful tool to provide immediate, objective, and actionable feedback.
So, Why Protern? How Does It Work?
Imagine your athlete completes a training run. By the time they are on the chairlift back up, their coach can show them a data-enhanced video overlay of their entire run. They won't just feel where they lost time; they will see it, down to the hundredth of a second. Protern allows our coaches to:
Pinpoint Exactly Where Time is Won or Lost: With unlimited split times and granular speed analysis, coaches can move beyond guesswork. They can identify the precise sections of a course where an athlete can carry more speed or improve their line.
Merge Data with Video for World Cup-Level Analysis: Protern seamlessly syncs its data with video from any camera. This creates a powerful visual tool that shows an athlete’s speed and real-time comparisons directly on the screen, providing a level of analysis previously reserved for elite national teams.
Provide Objective, Data-Driven Feedback: The platform delivers real, unbiased figures. This empowers our coaches to have more productive and insightful conversations with athletes, focusing on concrete data to validate feelings and drive improvement.
This is a significant leap forward for our program. To fully support this initiative, KSEF has invested over $10,000 in new video equipment, editing tools, and on-mountain gear to ensure our coaching staff has everything they need to maximize this technology from day one.
Get Ready for Fall Camp!
Our entire coaching staff will begin intensive training with the Protern.io software in early October. Our goal is to have the system fully implemented and ready to go by the time we hit the snow for our Fall Camp in Mammoth.
To kickstart this program, KSEF has purchased four (4) Protern.io units for our coaches to use with athletes across all age groups. While this ensures our skiers will get valuable exposure to the technology during training, the true power of Protern is unlocked through personal ownership. When an athlete has their own Protern pack, their performance data follows them from season to season, creating a comprehensive digital record of their progression. This long-term data is invaluable for tracking development and identifying trends throughout their entire racing career.
