Empowering Young Skiers at Kirkwood Mountain Resort

The KSEF Junior Development (Jr. Devo) Team is designed for young skiers aged 6 to 9 who are passionate about developing their skills and fostering a deep love for skiing at Kirkwood Mountain Resort. This program serves as a crucial stepping stone, transitioning young athletes from recreational skiing towards a structured development path, incorporating all-mountain exploration and an introduction to racing concepts.

Program Overview:

Unlike a beginner program, Jr. Devo focuses on nurturing skiing fundamentals and introducing athletes to both free skiing and racing skills in smaller, ability-based groups. This personalized approach ensures each participant receives the attention they need to thrive and progress.

Program Goals:

  • Develop strong skiing fundamentals and all-mountain skills specific to Kirkwood.

  • Introduce athletes to the basics of ski racing.

  • Foster a supportive and educational environment within the KSEF community.

  • Cultivate respect and compassion among young skiers.

  • Instill a lifelong passion for skiing at Kirkwood Mountain Resort.

  • Prepare athletes for progression into the KSEF U10 Alpine Race Team.

Skill Requirements:

  • Participants must be able to confidently ride chairlifts.

  • Participants must be able to efficiently ski off of chairlifts #5, #11, and #7 independently.

Required Equipment:

Families are responsible for providing the following equipment:

  • Skis: One pair of All Mountain Skis with a length recommended between the chin and the forehead.

  • Boots: Snug-fitting ski boots.

  • Poles: Ski poles.

  • Helmet: A hard-ear ski helmet that meets safety standards.

  • Goggles: Ski goggles suitable for varying weather conditions.

  • Gloves: Waterproof ski gloves or mittens.

  • Ski Pants: Waterproof ski pants.

  • Layers: Appropriate layers for varying weather conditions at Kirkwood.

Equipment Guidance: It is highly recommended that athletes and their families consult KSEF coaches before purchasing equipment to ensure proper fit and functionality. All equipment must receive prior approval from KSEF coaches before participating in on-snow training.

Get ready to kick off an exciting season with KSEF! We understand that ski equipment can be a significant investment, so we encourage families to explore ski swaps and used equipment markets, especially for growing athletes. Having the right gear is essential for both safety and performance, and our coaches are here to guide you with any questions or concerns.
