Wage Range: DOE $25– $30 per hour

Position Overview:
The Jr. Devo Head Coach is a critical leadership role within the Kirkwood Ski Education Foundation (KSEF), directly reporting to the Athletic Director with a dotted line to the Program Administrator. This position is central to ensuring the safety, development, and positive experience of our young athletes (ages 6-9) as they transition from recreational skiing to structured development, competition readiness, and all-mountain skill mastery at Kirkwood Mountain Resort.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety and Training:

  • Prioritize and ensure the safety of all Jr. Devo athletes and coaching staff both on and off the mountain.

  • Conduct regular safety briefings and training sessions for all Jr. Devo Coaches, ensuring compliance with KSEF safety policies and procedures.

Coaching and Athlete Development:

  • Lead the delivery of high-quality, personalized coaching sessions that build skiing fundamentals and introduce young athletes to competitive racing and all-mountain skiing.

  • Regularly evaluate athletes to ensure proper group placement based on skiing ability, strength, endurance, and social/emotional maturity.

  • Set clear, achievable individual skill objectives and developmental goals for each athlete, regularly tracking and communicating their progress.

Program Communication:

  • Manage all Jr. Devo Team communications, ensuring consistency and alignment with KSEF’s Media and Social Media policies.

  • Maintain proactive and professional communication with athletes, parents, coaching staff, and KSEF administration.

Administrative and Financial Management:

  • Collaborate closely with the KSEF Program Administrator to manage payroll and expenses effectively, ensuring alignment with the established Jr. Devo Team budgets.

  • Support accurate documentation of training sessions, race participation, and athlete attendance.

Competition and Events:

  • Facilitate athletes' introduction to competition by managing participation in local Kirkwood races and the Tahoe Parallel Race Series.

  • Attend designated races and age-group championships, providing leadership and support to coaching staff and athletes.

  • Engage athletes through fun and educational events that foster a positive introduction to ski racing.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • USSS Level 100 Certification (minimum requirement).

  • Demonstrated experience coaching youth skiing programs, preferably with athletes aged 6-9.

  • Proven leadership capabilities, excellent communication skills, and strong organizational abilities.

  • Current knowledge of skiing techniques, training methodologies, and competitive youth racing standards.
