The Legend Continues: 33 Years of the Kirkwood Banked Slalom
In the deep archives of Kirkwood history—way back in 1993—Dave "Harpo" Shear and his merry band of visionaries from Mtn Surf Snowboard Shop in Placerville, alongside the legendary hoodlumz of KirkwoodMtn Sports (legends to themselves), started something that would outlast us all. They didn't just dig a course; they dug the foundation for a culture.
It was an era where legends were born, records were shattered, and the parties were just as heavy as the riding. This was a gathering of misfits, hard chargers, and soul-skiers who banded together for the love of the turn and the tribe. The roll call reads like a local Hall of Fame: Tele-Rob, Boucher, The Daiek Clan, A-Bomb, Robby T (Tonto), Mr. Justin Befu, and Mike Dill. The lineup was stacked with characters like Jonny Rotten, Baby-Jay, Casey Lucas, Garbones, Pat Bosner, Jimmy D, Joey Chandler, Jared Noecti, Butch, and yes, Coop. And the legacy wouldn't be complete without the true snow-sliding machines: Trevor Brown, Bob Daley, The Bennett Boyz, Tele-Doug, Cob, Hodgy, Dave Tideck, and Surfhan himself, aka Mr. G Hansen.
Led by Harpo, this crew proved that competition takes a backseat to community. Now, we carry that torch for the 33rd Annual Legendary Banked Slalom.
This isn't just a race; it's a rite of passage for the tribe. Whether you are a Snowboarder, Skier, or Snowskater, this is where we gather to celebrate the friendships forged on the Mtn, in the cold, and the Spring season ahead.
The Details:
The Tribe: Open to Snowboarders, Skiers, and Snowskaters.
The Generation: All ages, 6 and Up.
The Vibe: Music, sun, adrenaline, and pure community.
Come feel the history under your feet and the fire in your belly. Let's make some new legends.
